Chex Mix
I almost always choose sweet over salty, but this particular snack is a memory that I wanted to pass along to Carver -- Nanny made Chex Mix every year at Christmastime. It's a huge bonus that this tasty treat makes for a toddler-friendly cooking experience.
Chex Mix
Ingredients
3 C rice (Chex) toasted cereal
3 C corn (Chex) toasted cereal
3 C wheat (Chex) toasted cereal
1 C mini pretzels
1 C nuts (peanuts or mixed)
6 T butter
2 T Worcestershire sauce (special attention to find a vegetarian version)
1 t sea salt
1/2 t onion powder
1/2 t garlic powder
1/4 t paprika
1/8 t turmeric
Method
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
Combine the cereals, pretzels, and nuts and spread in a 13x9 pan.
Melt the butter (in the microwave). Stir in seasonings.
Pour liquid mixture over the cereal mixture and stir to coat.
Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
Cool and then transfer to airtight container.
Notes
I made a quarter batch and left out the nuts (and pretzels, by request) for Carver. Most Worcestershire sauces contain anchovies, but I found a vegetarian option (Colgin) at the local grocery store. There is really nothing healthy about this snack, which just means that it's a snack best shared. ;)
